Basic engineering package

The BEP is the document that turns a process into a project. It is what an EPC quotes against, what a lender diligences, and what fixes roughly eighty per cent of your eventual capex.

Why the BEP decides your capex

By the time detailed engineering starts, the expensive decisions are already made. Equipment count, materials of construction, utility loads and plot layout are all set in basic engineering, and each one is difficult and costly to reverse later. Spending properly at this stage is the cheapest risk reduction available to a project.

Contents of a Sherle BEP

  • Design basis and battery limit definition
  • Process flow diagrams with heat and material balance
  • P&IDs to a level suitable for HAZOP
  • Equipment list with process datasheets
  • Line list and preliminary line sizing
  • Instrument index and control philosophy
  • Utility summary and consumption figures
  • Effluent and emissions summary
  • Preliminary plot plan and equipment layout
  • Relief and safeguarding philosophy
  • Capex estimate to factored accuracy

HAZOP

We take the P&IDs into HAZOP and sit through the study rather than handing drawings to a facilitator and leaving. Actions arising come back into the package as revisions, not as a separate list nobody closes out.

Second-opinion reviews

If an EPC has already produced a basis and you want it checked before committing, we review it as a standalone engagement. It is a short piece of work and it has saved clients considerably more than it costs.

Tell us what you're scaling.

Send the process, the stage you're at, and the question you're stuck on. You'll get an engineer's answer, not a sales sequence.
